Numbers Matter

Numbers Matter

“Write your worries in sand. Carve your blessings in stone.”
Numbers surround us everyday, no matter what age we are. At 16, this can be your SAT score, the number of friends you have, or how many people you have sitting around you at lunch. At 18, this can be the amount of your first paycheck or how many colleges you have to choose from. At any age, numbers matter.
In school, we thought it was all about our numbers on paper. What you got on your Finals, ACT, or on your GMAT. You thought, those numbers would determine the rest of our life. The system is set that way. We’re born to get the best test scores to prepare us for further schooling. Outside of the classroom, it may have been how popular you were, how many friends sit around you, or how many relationships you had. Truth is, those numbers don’t define your success. They never will, but let’s continue.
Later you take up a job, and that number becomes your paycheck. You are driven to succeed so you can support your family. That’s what you work for, right? But the job isn’t what’s limiting you to that check amount every two weeks, it’s something different. It’s not based on how much school you went through, or how much experience you have. Neither is it based on how early you wake up, or how many hours you put in. It’s based on the one thing. The people you surround yourself with. Surprised?
At the core, success is defined with whom who you surround yourself with. When you surround yourself around negativity, people simply want to take, and they preclude yourself from attaining happiness. Vultures surround us daily. This is where numbers matter the most. Being the most popular kid in school might have been the trend or may still be the trend today, but surrounding yourself around people that only want to see you succeed, that’s the core secret of life. The earlier you learn it, the better off you will be. I can also assure you – that number you will be able to count with one, maybe two hands. Keep that circle tight.
Those people define who you are. Your actions, your success, and your happiness. They give you the motivation to wake up the next day, jump out of bed and disrupt the world. They are the reason you are able to live comfortably, provide for your family, and live happily. They are always cosmically around you. Don’t ever doubt them. Because, they motivate you, to the best you can be in this world.
As they say, never count your problems, only your blessings.
That is the only number that matters.
