“A miracle is just a shift in perception from fear to love.” -Marianne Williamson
A friend recently read this to me, and it hit me in a big way. The deeper I thought about the message attributed in this quote, the more I realized how life as we know is defined by fear and love. And it’s up to us on how we choose to live it. We bottles ourselves with so much fear in what we want to accomplish that we have no room to be passionate about the things we love.
Throughout my life I’ve always felt that there was no point living in fear. I think from an early age I just somehow knew that life would be a series of obstacles that needed to be overcome. And I would always be able to overcome them because I didn’t let fear come in the way of what I loved doing.
Both as a kid and as an adult I’ve never been a person to dwell on the negative; to allow adversity to cloud my vision; to obscure my dream.
I’ve always transferred any negative inbound energy that intruded into my life into a loving outbound energy. When you do this the universe takes care of the rest. Both, personally and professionally.
I’ve always sensed that there was a cosmic order to things, a great mystery that we can’t truly understand.
I’ve always believed that if you do good, then good will come to you. If you love what you do and love others, you will see miracles occur in your journey.
I’ve always known and appreciated that I was brought up the right way. My father never tired of reminding me that we were God-fearing people. He often said, “Whatever you do, wherever you are, never forget that God is watching.”
I’ve never forgotten that admonition. I had big dreams. I expected greatness from myself. I truly believed in myself. I am my biggest competitor. I believed in winning. And, definitely believe in coming first.
But I’ve also always passionately believed that you should never compromise your morality. It’s important that we all live by this moral compass. Call it Karma, if you will. But I have no doubt that behaving in a decent and honest fashion, being a good person, contributes to future happiness and success. Bad intent and bad deeds lead to future suffering and they are generally provoked by fear.
Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. When we were born we came into a loving world. But somewhere along the way many people lose the uncompromising love they showed as children and learn to become fearful. Fear takes over and traps them. Their spiritual journey is stopped in its tracks. Fear leads to people conducting their lives in immoral or corrupt ways.
Fear leads people to sabotage everything that is good in their lives. It can destroy careers and relationships. It can lead to mistakes that can’t be erased. Fear is evil. Fear fosters negativity. Fear provokes anger. Fear makes people rude, manipulative, harsh and cruel.
We need to be able to cut free from the shackles of fear and embrace it with the things we love.
Love is what we were born with. Love is why we were put on this Earth and was our ultimate purpose. It is the meaning of a true life. Love in your heart and mind creates love in all aspects of your life. Sadly, too few people feel enough love in their lives.
The spiritual journey involves giving up fear and accepting love. When we give up being fearful and weak we become loving and strong. We accept that the power of the universe is within us. We practice forgiveness. And we become generous. Forgiveness of those who have done wrong both in business and in your personal relationships—and generosity towards others—are keys to unlocking inner peace and success.
And let’s not forget: Success is never about the money. Success is about accomplishments in everything that you do and helping others become successful. You can focus on what is going wrong in your life, or you can focus on what is going right. It’s your choice. But bear this in mind: whichever one you choose you’ll get more of the same.
You can choose to be fearful or you can choose to love. When you switch to love…miracles will happen.
