The Four Self-Commitments of Life

The Four Self-Commitments of Life

Navigating through life can be difficult with no GPS to tell us when to stop, go, turn, speed up, or slow down. The destination we all look forward to seem grand in theory, however, the journey is never that simple.
Through life so far, I’ve lived through many experiences. Some good and some from which I’ve learned, and from these there are four self-commitments I’ve found everyone should look to take on.
Enjoy
Life is too good not to enjoy. As the old saying goes, we must all take time to “Stop and smell the roses.” Sometimes you need to step back, look at your life, and appreciate what you have.
We are all blessed in different ways. It’s up to you to figure out how you will put your blessing to use and make the most out of it. Remember, it’s these very blessings and experiences that make our journey so unique. They empower us to see beyond doubt, fear, and insecurity that we face daily in the real world. They allow you to come to the edge and make that leap of faith. The unknown can be amazing, but only if we let ourselves get there.
Follow
The journey each and every one of us take, is undeniably unique just to us. For this reason, it’s important to follow your own page, no matter how dark, dangerous, or lonely the journey may seem.
Today, we live in a world where fads and opinions dictate acceptance in social circles. Dare yourself to stand out and set yourself apart from those confines. Everyone has their own opinions, there’s no need to conform to someone else’s. It’s your life, you’re the only one who’s going to live it, so make choices that bring happiness to you.
Love
When I mention love, I don’t necessarily mean romantic love. Look at love on a grander scale, love with your friends, love with your family, with your co-workers, etc. Love is an emotion we share with one-another, and its essential to our growth as human beings.
Love can also be love with yourself, and your circumstances. Do you love your job? Are you in a position where you wake up excited to see what the day holds for you? Are you high on the thrill of success at work? If you aren’t, move to a position where you are. It will make a huge difference in obtaining success.
Chase
Most people will look at a difficult situation and consider it to be “Impossible.” A word that shouldn’t exist in anyone dictionary. Instead, it should be replaced with “A goal.” Find out what you want, set goals, create a plan, and chase that goal until the very end. How can we achieve what we want if we don’t aim high?
Refuse to let anyone tell you that you can’t. Those who say you cannot, are those who never will. Aim as high as you can, create a plan, and shoot for it. Remember, those who accomplish things are usually the ones who were crazy enough to believe they ever could.
